Wimbledon Odds: In Whose Favor Are They?

With so many unexpected outcomes during the French Open (except probably the fact of who would be a champion), everyone is interested in Wimbledon odds. We'd like to take a look at all the possibilities and analyse what to expect.

On the men's side:

1. Roger Federer. A couple of years ago one would have little doubt that "King Roger" would win the trophy. Besides, he is the last year champion. But lately Roger's performance was not that good and his early elimination in French Open didn't give us confidence about his capability to win the Wimbledon.

2. Rafael Nadal. The king of clay is not playing that good on the grass surface, though he is definitely one of the favorites and we can surely envision him as a winner of Wimbledon. Again.

3. Novak Djokovic will surely do anything that in his power to win the trophy once again and gain more confidence for the next Grand Slam.

4. Andy Murray is undoubtedly the most favorite player in the tournament. His last year Olympic gold medal earned on grass, and support from all his countrymen makes him a likely candidate for this year Wimbledon trophy.

On the women's side:

1. Serena Williams. One would think that something really unexpected should happen for Serena not to defend her last year trophy and become Wimbledon winner again. I'd put most odds in her favor.

2. Maria Sharapova should stay focused and play a really great game to win the tournament. Though if she is "lucky" enough to play with Serena the odds would not probably be in her favor.

3. Victoria Azarenka might beat Maria, but will she be able to withstand Serena's power? We are about to see in a while...

Well... It happened. Serena is in the final of Wimbledon! Victoria Azarenka is out... There were many hopes for Vika to win another Grand Slam, but... Now she has to concentrate on the Olympics and winning medal for Belarus (perhaps gold?).
Though I'll be supporting Serena - GO USA! :)))

Nike doesn't have "special" Victoria Azarenka's line... just yet... That's why Vika is wearing the same dress she sported at French Open, but in white (though still pretty nice and stylish).

French Open 2012 Tennis Fashion. Day 8: Victoria Azarenka

A shock to all Victoria Azarenka's fans who were hoping to see her as a Grand Slam winner once again - Vika has lost in the 4th round to Dominica Cibulkova just in two sets. We really hoped to store the review on Vika's outfit until final or at least semifinal, but unfortunately we have to write it now.

Vika's dress seems really cute and bright which goes great with her complexion. Unlike pink-red-orange clothing from other manufacturers, Nike's pink doesn't merge with the court and looks really pretty. We've already published Vika's 2012 French Open fashion in a preview post. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Tennis Fashion Hits (and Misses) in 2011 – “The Gals”

Although we love all of the action that a good Grand Slam brings, part of the fun is catching up on the latest on-court styles. Check out our play-by-play hits and misses for 2011!

THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN

While there were a few comely outfits turned out by a couple of female players at the Aussie Open, we wanted to give attention to a couple of SERIOUS misses…in hopes that we never have to see them (or anything like them) again!

 MISS

This monstrosity posing as a “tennis dress” features some very obvious problems: the fit, the back zipper which looks like it was constructed by a 6th grade sewing student and an overall absence of class or style… yikes!!!

MISS

Is Kim Clijster’s taste level really this bad, or is she simply too nice to say, “NO” to her long-time sponsor? A little green goes a long way! Just a button-collar, white, cotton shirt would have made all the difference!

THE FRENCH OPEN

HIT

Fresh and fun…we love the pop of color and bright white accents in this Adidas outfit, tastefully put together by Maria Kirilenko! Our grade: A+++

 In the battle of the big sponsors, this one-shouldered, Nike dress thrown over a black sports bra is just a sad, frilly MISS or mess…whichever way you want to view it!



WIMBLEDON

Blond vs. Blond: While Miss Sharapova sports a very comfortable, classic and well-fitting HIT, Miss Mattek-Sands is, as usual, SANS style in this unattractive and distracting MISS!!! One word: “Ugh!”

THE U.S. OPEN

Julia Goerges is full of focus in this cute, comfy and sporty ensemble (left), a definite HIT, while Nadia Petrova decked in a multi-colored MISS (right) prays for much-needed style!

The first in a series of advertisements for "Strong is Beautiful" - WTA's new global ad campaign - this :30 second commercial focuses on all of the characteristics necessary to become a successful professional tennis player. World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki described the video this way:

US Open 2011 Tennis Fashion. Day 6: Victoria Azarenka's Outfit

It was a tough day for Victoria Azarenka, loosing 6-1 in the first set, and surviving 5 match point in the second, she finally lost to Serena in a tie-break. It seems that most of our posts in day-to-day fashion review are dedicated to Nike. Partially it may be because one of the best tennis players are wearing Nike, and the other reason - Nike may have got the richest collection for US Open... Anyway, in Victoria's case there was no "day" and "night" versions of the outfit, though her dress was really nice. Bright colors look very good on Victoria, and though we've seen her a couple of times in this shade of blue, changing the style of the dress really helped Victoria to look her best, and may be, play her best in the second set.

2011 Pre-Wimbledon Nike Fashion Review

Wimbledon 2011…it’s almost here! In addition to action-packed, grass-court tennis, we love to discover what the top dogs are wearing. What sorts of bright and trendy whites are in store for us this year? Take a sneak-peek at some of the new Nike styles fashioned for the tennis elite!

2011 Pre-Wimbledon Nike Fashion Review

Following an injury that took her out of the first few 2011 Grand Slams, Serena Williams returns to tennis at Wimbledon sporting this clean, crisp Smash Lawn tennis dress by Nike. Created specifically for her, this classic white dress features simple lines with obsidian accents. We love the nautically-inspired style, great fit and the light and comfortable fabric – classic and cool!

  

It appears that Maria Sharapova will wear this Nike Dri-FIT, stretch jersey dress featuring bonded, front seams and metallic bronze accents. While the Maria Ace Lawn Dress is pretty and functional with a built-in bra, it is reminiscent of her Sony-Ericsson dress, and we find the bronze detailing on both a touch distracting.

  

Some girls adore their separates and we adore these Wimbledon whites chosen by Li Na, French Open Champion! This Nike outfit features comfortable dri-FIT fabric and a classic fit. The cute, Nike Smash Classic pleated skirt offers the perfect amount of detail to keep this style interesting without a lot of distraction. Score: Love-Love!

 

Viktoria Azarenka will be sporting this plain, gathered Nike tank dress. While this outfit appears to be cool and comfortable in dri-FIT fabric, it is borderline- boring. We recommend some cute accessories for a little extra spice!

 

Roger Federer will be looking to win his 17th title dressed in brand-new apparel created specifically for him by Nike. The RF Trophy Lawn Polo and Trophy Woven Taped Short perfectly echoes the Fed’s cool and collected – just a shade dull - demeanor. Components like Dri-FIT technology and polyester stretch-knit jersey fabric with UV protection should keep him comfortable on court. The embossed, Swiss-cross pattern on the shirt is a clever detail, but invisible from even a short distance.

  

This year, Rafael Nadal is “keeping his fingers crossed, and his water bottles perfectly in line” in hopes of advancing to his fifth Wimbledon final and gaining a third championship Wimbledon title.
