The Rock-Star Style of Rafa Nadal!

“I'm still happy with my season. I've won a lot of tournaments and that gives me confidence. I'm improving every year. It's a normal evolution.”
Rafael Nadal

Name:  Rafael Nadal-Parera
Birth Date:  June 3, 1986
Height:  6’ 1”
Weight:  188 lbs.
Current Residence:  Manacor, Mallorca, Spain
Current ATP Ranking:  #1

Rafael (Rafa) Nadal was born in Mallorca, Spain to parents, Sebastián and Ana María. At the age of 15, Rafa won his first ATP match in Mallorca against Ramon Delgado to become the ninth Open Era player to win an ATP match prior to his 16th birthday.  Since that first match, he has collected one gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and nine Grand Slam titles (five at Roland-Garros, two at Wimbledon, one at the US Open, and one at the Australian Open).

In the beginning, the Rafa Nadal style was one of most young tennis players – all about comfort – featuring roomy lightweight apparel that helped keep him cool while wheeling around on court.  Young Rafa was completely unaware of the millions of eyes that would eventually be feasting on his beefcake physique.

With a busy year in 2005 which included a Grand Slam win at Roland-Garros, Rafa and his “peeps” began paying a bit more attention to his on-court style, and he had millions of mothers purchasing “clam diggers” and sleeveless sports T’s for their racquet-wielding sons.

This trend continued for a few years, but in 2009 Rafa naturally and gracefully “graduated” to short-sleeved shirts and adult, zip-up tennis shorts – although as some may have noticed when observing Rafa’s play, it is hard for him to find shorts that properly fit his massive lower-body musculature without a bit of “adjustment.”

Part of Rafa’s continuing appeal lies in the fact that he still seems so completely unassuming – even with his extensive accomplishments at such a young age!  He looks just as natural signing autographs for young children as he does posing shirtless for Armani ads.  He admits to dressing casually when he is not playing tennis – in jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket – whatever feels comfortable.  He also confesses to taking fashion advice from his mother from time to time…what boy doesn’t, after all?
