Wimbledon Odds: In Whose Favor Are They?

With so many unexpected outcomes during the French Open (except probably the fact of who would be a champion), everyone is interested in Wimbledon odds. We'd like to take a look at all the possibilities and analyse what to expect.

On the men's side:

1. Roger Federer. A couple of years ago one would have little doubt that "King Roger" would win the trophy. Besides, he is the last year champion. But lately Roger's performance was not that good and his early elimination in French Open didn't give us confidence about his capability to win the Wimbledon.

2. Rafael Nadal. The king of clay is not playing that good on the grass surface, though he is definitely one of the favorites and we can surely envision him as a winner of Wimbledon. Again.

3. Novak Djokovic will surely do anything that in his power to win the trophy once again and gain more confidence for the next Grand Slam.

4. Andy Murray is undoubtedly the most favorite player in the tournament. His last year Olympic gold medal earned on grass, and support from all his countrymen makes him a likely candidate for this year Wimbledon trophy.

On the women's side:

1. Serena Williams. One would think that something really unexpected should happen for Serena not to defend her last year trophy and become Wimbledon winner again. I'd put most odds in her favor.

2. Maria Sharapova should stay focused and play a really great game to win the tournament. Though if she is "lucky" enough to play with Serena the odds would not probably be in her favor.

3. Victoria Azarenka might beat Maria, but will she be able to withstand Serena's power? We are about to see in a while...

Fashion Battles: 2012 U.S. Open Tennis

The last Grand Slam of a very long season – due to the extra excitement of Olympic tennis – leaves us feeling bittersweet to say the least. The retirement of Kim Clijsters and Andy Roddick will certainly give us less to dish about when it comes to tennis fashion. And there are other reasons we will miss these two memorable phenoms.

In addition to the Aussies, Americans too have adopted “our Kim” as one of our own – we have enjoyed her winning personality and amazing on-court flexibility. And Mister Roddick? Well, in spite of ourselves sometimes, we enjoy his feisty attitude and sharp wit, not to mention that serve…we will miss that serve!

That said, let’s get back to fashion… Bold color seems to be the trend at this year’s open with a favorite being bright pink! With a host of bright colors and patterns, we thought we would make a few comparisons for your amusement. Presenting…

Lacoste vs. Lacoste
Tobias Kamke, U.S. Open 2012
Benoit Paire, U.S. Open 2012
In one corner…Tobias Kamke of Germany. In the other…Benoit Paire of France. While we admire the design and lined detail on both shirts, we prefer the contrast of the bright orange against the black pants – the WINNER…Herr Kamke (check out Tobias' style in Lacoste fashion for U.S. Open post!!

Serena vs. Serena

While it may be hard to believe, it appears that both Venus and Serena (at the same time, in the same tournament) have gotten the memo...finally! The sisters looked TERRIFIC at this year’s open, although we are singling out Serena here. While her doubles (left) AND singles (right) outfits appear trendy, bright and comfortable – the WINNER is the SINGLES style, due to its flattering vertical lines. Also, the sleeveless look better features her trimmed down, well-defined guns!

Battle of the “Classics”

Lastly we have two of our favorite tennis fashion plates: Maria Kirilenko and Anna Ivanovic in a battle of the “classics.” Both girls sport simple yet very pretty tennis dresses paired with bright white visors, shoes and wristbands (check out their styles in the post dedicated to Adidas fashion at U.S. Open). Both are so fetching that we simply cannot choose a winner. Our DECISION: It’s a draw!

Wimbledon 2012 Tennis Fashion. Day 2: Serena Williams

Yesterday we featured Venus Williams. Today is her sister Serena's turn. Serena finished her first Wimbledon round with a confident win over her opponent.

We already featured Serena's Wimbledon dress in our Wimbledon fashion and personality quiz, and frankly on the picture it looked much better than on Serena. Either she messed up with the size, or Nike messed up with the design. This dress was too short and looked more like a nightie than like a tennis dress. However Serena did great job with accessories - choosing purple shorties and same color bandana and wristbands to brighten her Wimbledon whites.

Trendy Tennis Best 2012 French Open Fashion: Fab Five Royal Court

It’s June, and we all know what that means. The heavy, red clay at Roland Garros promises long, well-crafted points and exciting French Open tennis!

As is the case at any Grand Slam tournament, we have learned to expect the unexpected…like the early ousting of Serena Williams by French woman, Virginie Razzano and the first-round spanking Andy Roddick took from Frenchman Nicholas Mahut.

Along with a few “downs” however, always come a few “ups.” After losing his qualifying match for a spot in the tournament, Belgian David Goffin was allowed in anyway following an emergency withdrawal from another qualifier – and then proceeded to win the next three matches!

And of course, in a sea of tedious and not-so-tasteful tennis styles, there were a few stand-out looks that caught our eye. Take a look at our top picks for a fashion-forward Fab Five Royal Court!

King Roger:

Yes, we know…he always makes the cut, but what can we do? The man’s got style! Dark gray makes a bold contrast against the rich, orange clay and the pop of bright yellow seals the deal for our coveted…

Fab Five #1.

Queen (for a day) Serena:

The one time we actually want to see more of her, Serena is taken out in the first round! This lovely, pale aqua dress beautifully complements her skin tone and stands out against the burnt orange clay. Cute, matching accessories earn Serena our esteemed…

Fab Five #2.

Sky blue is far and away the BEST color against the clay. A great fit and hints of bright orange bestow

Fab Five #3 to…

Prince Gilles

Princess Sloane Stephens:

How did this Fab Five newcomer keep her outfit so brand-spanking clean? This cute Under Armour ensemble also looks cool and comfortable giving it a deserving…

Fab Five #4.

Lady in Waiting Nina Bratchikova:

We love the cut of this cute halter dress by Lotto. A matching visor, shoes and wrist band would have earned Nina one of the top spots but she will (no doubt) be pleased with our…

French Open 2012 Tennis Fashion Day 3: Serena Williams In And Out Of The Tournament

One more shocking event at 2012 French Open - Serena Williams is out of the tournament right after her first match! It was really surprising that Serena lost to Virginie Rozzano of France who is not even in top 100 on WTA tour. Lots of hopes were there that Serena would win her second French Open title this year, especially after her successes this year on major clay courts before the French Open.

Speaking of fashion, Serena looked great. Her Nike dress in mint color with a faux wrap construction looked really stylish.

French Open is knocking at the door. We have already covered upcoming tennis fashion of Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer, Vika Azarenka and Maria Sharapova. Today we'll introduce Serena Wiliams' outfit Nike created specially for her.

I really like the color of the dress and Air Max Mirabella 3 shoes compliment this dress perfectly.

Sharapova, Williams Sisters, Kournikova and Steffi Graf as Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models

Sports Illustrated gathered the pictures of what they called "Athlete/Celebrity Swimsuit Models" where they published the pictures of well-known athletes in swimsuits. Among the tennis players, the models were Russian beauties Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova, American icons Venus and Serena Williams, and one of the greatest tennis players of all times Steffi Graf. Fab Five. Best Dressed Tennis Players: Australian Open 2012

With continued stellar play from Mr. Djokovic and fun surprises like Leighton Hewitt’s 3rd round win over Milos Raonic, the 2012 Australian Open is proving to be a wonderful kick-off to the Grand Slam season! The only thing that could have made it better? A Williams-Roddick mixed-doubles pairing…but we are keeping our fingers crossed for the future.

Even though someone had the misguided idea to recall 1980s neon - with a majority of players blindly jumping on the bandwagon - we did find a few styles that we enjoyed at the Aussie Open…here is our Fab Five for 2012.
The Fed Express – 1st Prize…again…yawn. Roger is so put together that even his racquet matches. We have seen this exact outfit many, many times, however. And consistent perfection can get a little monotonous…well, almost. Check out Roger Federer's Style from our Australian Open 2012 Fashion Review.
Roger Federer, Australian Open 2012
A well-fitting short in a neutral color, a good amount of bright white and small colorful accents…classic, simple and best of all…no NEON – thank you, Ivo! 2nd Prize!
Ivo Karlovic, Australian Open 2012
Okay, we can forgive a little bit of neon. This simple dress is beautifully cut, and the well-placed, eye-popping green is kept to a minimum. Check out Maria's style at our Australian Open 2012 Fashion Review. 3rd Prize!
Maria Sharapova, Australian Open 2012
These snazzy K-Swiss shirts may have given the top-seeded Bryan brothers that extra bit of luck needed to move on to the semis. The brothers now have an opportunity to set a record with a 12th Grand Slam Championship….the second best thing that may happen to Bob Bryan this year. His wife is due to give birth to their first child at the end of this month! 4th Prize!
Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, Australian Open 2012
Serena already made our Wear This list with a stylish headband. This cute ensemble from Nike is well-fitting, cool and comfortable. If only the accessories actually matched the dress, Miss Williams would have the top spot! For now (sniffle) she will have to settle for… 5th Prize

Wear This, Not That! 2012 Australian Open Fashion

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi!!! It’s that time again kids – the Australian Open. For some tennis aficionados, it is the BEST time of the year – the start of another Grand Slam season! While we are sure that you are enjoying the action-packed matches, there’s no doubt you have been waiting with baited breath for this year’s Trendy Tennis “Wear This, NOT That – Aussie Open” post! So, without further ado…

WEAR THIS
We LOVE Del Potro’s relaxed (yet put together) style! He always exhibits just the right amount of color paired with neutrals (typically navy) and a touch of bright white. Check out Day 9 of our Aussie Open 2012 Tennis Fashion Review to see how to create Del Potro's Australian Open 2012 look.

NOT THAT
Verdasco usually ROCKS the color, but this time he went just a little too far! It’s a good thing he’s out early…we’re not sure our retinas could have taken another match!

 WEAR THIS
Speaking of color…Ms. McCartney has done a wonderful job designing this Performance Tennis Dress – she thinks about skin tone, color (look how beautiful it pairs with the court blue and Miss Wozniacki’s complexion), and fabric – this design features beautiful textural detail.

 NOT THAT
Yikes…where to start? This too-bright shade of yellow rarely complements any skin tone, and the accent color clashes with the darker blue courts!

 WEAR THIS
If you need something to keep those nasty beads of sweat from your peepers, we love a visor – this one beautifully accents the outfit, and it shields Miss Kirilenko’s eyes from harmful UV rays!

 NOT THAT
Doesn’t Miss Kvitova read Wear This NOT That?? We keep finding her in these unattractive headbands with tails – for goodness sake!
P. S. Shoulders back, Petra…but we digress.

 WEAR THIS
If you MUST wear a headband, choose one like Serena is wearing here – wide, with a colorful accenting pattern SANS tails!
