Wear This, Not That! Fashion Highlights from the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. The New Nike Tennis Line

To wear or not to wear…that is the question. The new Nike Tennis line featured at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open in Miami served up some stylish and some not-so-stylish choices.  “Greats” like Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer and a few “up-and-comers” proudly sported Nike fashion at this year’s open.
Rafael Nadal - Sony Ericsson Open

WEAR THIS!  As is par for the course (or for the “court” in this case) Rafa once again did Nike proud with his choice of lively, bright shades for his tennis shirt that compliment his dark, Spanish skin tone.  Paired with a crisp, white short and sweet, lime green shoes - Rafa rocks the look!

Roger Federer Roger Federer of Switzerland in action against Juan Monaco of Argentina during the Sony Ericsson Open at Crandon Park Tennis Center on March 28, 2011 in Key Biscayne, Florida.

WEAR THIS AS WELL!  Is this Roger Federer sporting a v-neck t-shirt?? While we had developed a fondness for the classic “Federer polo,” sometimes it’s nice to change it up a bit, and we like this fresh, new look.  Still classic, the two-toned T with just a hint of peach, pairs well with the dark gray short and “peachy” accessories.  As always, Roger is calm, cool, collected.

Iveta Benesova - Sony Ericsson Open

WEAR THIS!  A perfect choice for Iveta Benesova, she looks stylish and comfortable in this adorable Maria Sharapova Statement Tennis Tank and white Statement Tennis Skirt from Nike.  The robin’s egg blue with lined embellishment pops against her clean white skirt and accessories – nice work, Iveta!

Victoria Azarenka - Sony Ericsson Open

NOT THAT!
A “one-shouldered pajama dress over a blue sports bra” is not a good look for anyone!  Also, Azarenka’s fair complexion cries out for more color! A big NO for Nike Set Point Flirty Women's Knit Tennis Dress.

Maria Sharapova Maria Sharapova of Russia celebrates after she won her match against Petra Martic of Croatia during the Sony Ericsson Open at Crandon Park Tennis Center on March 24, 2011 in Key Biscayne, Florida.

WEAR THIS!  The Nike Maria Sharapova Cross-Court Statement Tennis Dress features a body-shaping, comfortable look, and the matching visor completes the outfit.  Dri-FIT fabric and gold embellishment on the bodice offers on-court function and style!
Lucie Safarova - Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open - Day 2

NOT THAT!  Another “one-shouldered” top worn by Lucie Safarova, this style is part of last year’s Nike collection which may have been the inspiration for Ms. Asarenka’s outfit.   Giving the appearance of a wardrobe malfunction gone wrong, we think the one-shouldered look should be scrapped!

With the exception of a few missteps on the women’s side, this year’s Nike Tennis Line is fresh and vibrant.  Their lightweight, breathable fabrics allow for freedom of movement and leave tennis players cool and comfortable on court.
